A selection of my other travels which may not be as interesting as a lot of my others but should go on a personal travels site: Holland, France, Spain, Minorca, Malta, Belgium, UK
On this page Malta, Bruges in Belgium and loads of the UK as I live there!
Malta for a week
This is the most standard holiday I have had around 1999 to 2000. I booked it through uk teletext which was quite cheap. My girlfriend Lisa (now my wife) and I scraped together our money for a week in Malta. We flew from Gatwick, which is a real pain driving so far from our home in Norfolk. Quite frankly we were herded onto the aircraft like animals but the hotel we got was quite good as it was smaller than most and we had a nice room overlooking the street. Also going self catering helps with costs if you want to nip down the food shop to cook something up in the room. The resort was Bugibba which is not over-touristy.I had always wanted to go to Malta since I saw that black and white war film set there: Malta Story with Alec Guinness, Jack Hawkins staring. It was great to see the capital Valletta which views are in the film a lot and the rocky beaches. Our trip to Valletta involved getting the local bus where all the old people push in the queue, much like they do boarding the plane to get there in the first place. Other than that it was odd to find a McDonalds right in the centre of the place, but handy for a snack and to use the toilets there!
We had a very nice time and one of the favourite pursuits was watching the lizards at the little stone park down the road from our hotel, that and sampling the local wine!
Returning required being herded onto the plane, having no sleep and a monumental drive home at 4am in the morning.
Bruges, Belgium
Back in the early 90? my boss had a house in Bruges in Belgium and she let me go and stay there on a couple of occasions by myself. Then it was just a matter of driving onto a ferry and driving to the city, these were the days before I was any good at budget travel! Her house was quite near the centre so it was a nice location just to stroll around the city. I got quite a passion for Belgium chocolates at the time. I would recommend Bruges to anyone for a quiet weekend holiday.UK Travels
I live in the UK and have seen a lot of it. I was born in Nottingham and then from the age of one lived in Whittlesea which is near Peterborough in Cambridgeshire. Then at the age of five I moved to Thetford in Norfolk, thirty miles from Norwich and Cambridge. I have seen a lot of the North Norfolk Coast taking several camping holidays there when I was small to recent times camping at Sheringham and Wells-next-the-sea.I also went to stay in Devon with my parents in the 1970? near Kingsbridge and again with my girlfriend (now my wife) in 1999 or 2000 camping near Torquay. Pervious to this I had stayed with friends in Torquay twice before. There ware quite a few places I remember from these previous trips to take Lisa to, such as Salcombe and Dartmouth which has got a great castle. Also went into Cornwall.
Furthest north I have been so far is Newcastle, when I stayed with friends in Sunderland. I also stayed once near Liverpool and visited Southport and Manchester. I also once went to Stoke-on-Trent and came back past the Corsford aircraft museum.
Also had visits to Lincoln and Bedfordshire. There is the great shuttleworth collection in near Sandy in Bedfordshire, which is a wonderful aircraft museum.
Other than that I have seen London many, many times and even lived and worked there for a bit. I have seen many attractions there, but now London seems very expensive. Certainly I have seen: the Imperial War Museum, H.M.S. Belfast, Madame Tussauds, been on the top of St. Pauls, been on the London Eye, to name but a few.
Another must do is Duxford Air Museum near Cambridge. Splendid!
